Home Improvement II

Projects

     Bridge building

All students competed in a bridge building contest. Structural engineering designs had to conform to specified lengths, widths and spans. All bridges were tested and given efficiency ratings.

     Shed building

Students have built sheds that are sold to the public for cost of materials and gain valuable experience in framing, roofing and sheathing. We produced sheds with Texture 1-11 , red cedar shingles and our most recent will be with vinyl siding,

      Greenhouse

The students have been actively involved with construction of a green house in the courtyard. Presently most of the form work is complete and we are waiting for the weather to break for the completion of this project.

     Mantel Clock

The students are currently building a Mantel clock

Wiring branch circuits found in a service panel in a house.

Students will wire every circuit that will be found in a house. Performance based instruction intergraded with hands on experience is stressed through out the course.

Computer Engineering

This class is designed to give students a thorough background in computer service and repair. Students are using Text References from two books.- Computer Service and Repair by Richard M. Roberts and Managing and Maintaining your PC by Jean Andrews. Lab Manual reference is also being referenced from the same author’s as the text’s reference. Students are given Computer Service and repair Lab activities to reinforce the theory that is covered in class. Labs focus on hands activities using computers assigned to each student.

 NCCER Certification

(National Center for Curriculum Educational Research)

All students in Home Improvement classes are being trained in order to receive credit for certification in NCCER curriculum.  The first in the series of competencies in NCCER is the Core curriculum.  The second is Carpentry I.  Completed certifications are going to be recorded on a National Data base. This portfolio of each student’s data   will provide nationally recognized student achievements all over the country.
